Free Blogger Templates
Lesson 7: Free Blogger Backgrounds & Templates
In today’s lesson, I’m going to digress somewhat and include information for those who’ve had a Blogger blog for a couple of months or years and who want to spruce it up a little.
The templates offered via Blogger are a good starting point but as time goes on, you may find that you want your blog to offer more visual appeal. Thankfully, there’s a way–and all at no cost! It would be counterproductive to set up a free blog and then end up paying for a different blog template.

Hi Algea,
I, too, wondered about this because my blog was established and I had lots of widgets and links added, that I didn’t want wiped out.
I contacted the site to see if I could obtain information on this.
If you are installing a new template, you shouldn’t have any problems. Just go to Blogger, Layout, and Edit HTML. Then save your current template where it says: Download Full Template. Once you have done that . . .
Shrink down your window and go to the site where you want to download a template. Click download and save it to your computer.
Next, go back to Blogger, and choose “Browse.” Upload the new template file. Save your changes. You have the Preview option.
Any posts you created should still be intact; then add any desired gadgets to your blog.
For those who have an established blog, you’ll want to save your widgets into a file. Go to the particular site and ask for specific directions before attempting to make changes.
There are also sites that will give you the HTML to add into your template if you don’t want to try to save all your widgets and then add them back. I did this and now have two sidebar columns on my blog: http:www.writeandearnaliving.com. Check it out to see the new look.
Let me know how you make out.
Hi Charles,
I’ll be making more tweaks to the blog, as time permits.
Charles, I’ve just included links at the blog to some fabulous Blogger resources I’ve come across. I’ve found these really helpful.
